Free Trip to Google!

You can win a free trip to Google Headquarters located in Mountain View, California, by completing given tasks. Since 2010, Google Inc. has hosted an annual programming competition called Google Code-in (GCI), which deals with pre-university students to complete tasks specified by various partnering open-source organizations. Before CGI‘s modification during 2007-2008, it was originally started as a Google Highly Open Participation Contest.

In 2019, participants who completed all tasks won a grand prize trip to Google HQ! Also, each participating organization selects their two grand prize winners who will earn this trip, who also can bring a parent or legal guardian for four nights in June 2020.

The contest allows students between 13 and 17 who were currently enrolled in high school or equivalent to pre-university or secondary school programs. Several prizes included a digital certificate for completing at least 1 task and a t-shirt for completing three or more tasks. Also, after the contest, each organization will choose their six finalists to receive limited edition Google Code-in jackets.

The contest begins on December 3, 2019 (at 00:00 (UTC)) and will end on January 23, 2020 (at 00:00 (UTC)). There are 29 open source organizations to mentor students as part of GCI who work diligently to create thousands of tasks for students to work on, including code, documentation, design, quality assurance, outreach, research, and training tasks. Wikimedia is one of them whose foundation is dedicated to bringing free content to the world, operating Wikipedia, and maintaining the MediaWiki software.

Since 2010, over 8100 students from 107 countries have completed tasks in the contest.

This year, I will act as a mentor with a couple of students for the Wikimedia Foundation in this upcoming contest. If you will participate in this contest, you can get Wikimedia-related guidance from me if needed.
